This year there is a new toy on the market that is almost guaranteed to be on every kids wish list, you may have already seen them watching the show on TV. The toys are called Bakugan, and they are extremely popular right now, so popular in fact that Toys R Us has held national Bakugan tournaments that have sold out. So the question arises, what exactly are Bakugan, and where can you buy them?

So what is this Bakugan game you hear so much about? It all started with a TV show called Bakugan Battle Brawlers, which first appeared in 2007. The group of kids who play the game of Bakugan to save the earth are known as The Bakugan Battle Brawlers.

The TV show follows the life of Dan Kuso, and goes into not only his personal relationships but also those of his group. They find these special cards that rain down from the sky and invent a game that becomes popular around the world. Soon they find that there is a whole alternate universe where this game is being played for real. The game in the Bakugan Battle Brawlers cartoon involves throwing down Bakugan balls to release the Bakugan creatures from the spheres they are contained in. These creatures battle, and whichever creature is stronger comes off victorious.

Toy companies soon realized the growing popularity of this show and jumped in with the latest toy craze. Think about it as Transformers and really strong Pokmon and you’ll get the idea. The Bakugan is a strategic trading card game that uses metal cards and magnetic spring-loaded miniature figures in the shape of marbles, called Bakugan. The objective of the game is simple: Roll your Bakugan balls onto the metal cards, and whichever Bakugan ends up more powerful wins that card. Capture three of your opponent’s gate cards or defeat all of their Bakugan.

If this seems like this is just another spin on the same old thing, that’s because it is. However, the Bakugan game gives the genre a new twist. Not only are you thinking about how to play your cards right, there is a physical portion added thanks to the marble like Bakugan. Kids games have come a looooong way since when most of us were kids. Kids not only get to buy the cards, they also get to buy the balls too!

The game itself is simple enough for your younger ones to play, but also has enough complexities to keep the older ones entertained for hours. Another plus of this game is that is different from the other trading card games is that the players can play the game exactly as it is seen on the TV show. There is no difference between the game and what the fans of the show see on the screen. Except, of course, for the fact that your Bakugan don’t actually contain real live monsters.

Bakugan are sure to be a hit this year, Toys R Us is having a hard time keeping them in stock so get yours fast while there’s still time.
